Alhambra Theatre Programme

The Alhambra Palace Theatre

The Alhambra Palace Theatre opened in 1901 on the first floor of The Alhambra buildings. The ground floor comprised of a market, shops, restaurant and a photographer. By 1910 the venue was being used to screen films and a Cinematography license was obtained in 1910. In the 1920s it was renamed the Astoria Super Cinema showing films and putting on a series of variety shows. The cinema closed during World War II and re-opened in 1946..

The Carleton

The place was closed in 1970 after a fire. Following repairs the first floor re-opened as a disco. In 1989 the name was changed to The Carleton Club and it became a nightclub. The club also hosted events like boxing, wrestling and beauty pageants.
